What Are Shortcodes and How To Use Them

Shortcodes. What in the world are they and what do they do? Here’s an example of some shortcodes at work in our themes.

And here’s the nerdy definition courtesy of WordPress,

 “A shortcode is a WordPress-specific code that lets you do nifty things with very little effort. Shortcodes can embed files or create objects that would normally require lots of complicated, ugly code in just one line. Shortcode = shortcut.”

An example of an easy shortcode is our contact form. Simply insert [code lang=”shortcode”]contact[/code] into your page body content in your wordpress editor to viola, generate your contact form. Here’s a great look at using basic shortcodes:

In general, shortcodes extend the functionality of WordPress themes to give you, the end user, way more options and control. The tabs, accordion, and social media shortcodes are built into our themes. Look for many more awesome shortcodes to come in the future!
