    1. Haha Kaitlyn! Best. Comment. Ever. I felt the exact same way when I discovered it. It was a revelation unlike any other. :)

  1. ::Sigh:: this is awesome. Thank you thank you!
I’ve been trying to fix it on the back end for so long and had no idea this was so simple. Loving your site by the way, so many helpful good stuff!

    1. Abby,

Glad to be of some help. I know… this is one of those things that literally made me do a face palm when I realized how long I’d been messing it up. Doh!

  2. I have just started my own blog (one post so far!) and trying to get to grips with wordpress. So found this a very useful tip – thanks. Will now look at the rest of your site to see what other tips you have gained through your experience.

    1. Oh yay! Glad to be of a teeny bit of help. :) Oh, and good for you for diving in headfirst. It’s the only way to learn.

      Hugs!

  3. Oh wow, thank you so much! I came across your article on Pinterest – this really has put an end to my endless frustration! :) You rock! Love, Ebru

    1. Holly,

Yeah… the text editor in WordPress still has a ways to go as far as formatting text is concerned. :/ The key that I’ve found is after using a heading text style, hit enter, then make sure to deselect the heading style to return to paragraph format. Different WordPress themes may add a different amount of spacing after each heading as well.

  4. Sweet! That is so helpful.

I must admit that sometimes I have the opposite need without having to open my text editor and try to figure it out and that is: how do I insert MORE gap?

  5. I’m the opposite – I LIKE having the extra line space between paragraphs. I think it makes my blogs much more readable and adds to the user experience.

    Cheers,
    Susanna

  6. I “pinned” this post a few months ago when I started my blog. I just had to come back to it and say a great big THANK YOU. I was so frustrated in the beginning because of the spacing issue I was having. Thanks to you… problem solved.
Thank you for such a small, but ever-so powerful tip!

    1. I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  7. hello miss angie, i have been reading and reading for the past 3+ hours … so many good tips, so many beautiful freebies, great little videos and you have a delightful sense of humor :) when i got to this tip i just had to comment … thank you exponentially, that extra spacing has vexed me at times as i like things ‘just so’ … i have a long way to go on getting my blog (and website) as i want it, but all your knowledge is most useful :) thanks again!!

    1. Dawn,

Oh gosh! You’re too sweet. I’m so glad you’ve found a few of my little ramblings helpful. This little WordPress trick took me like 2 + years to figure out. The bane of my existence. Seriously! Had to do my job to spread the word. :)

  8. You’ve got to be kidding me! I’ve been struggling with this for I don’t even want to say how long and it’s actually something that has held me up from launching my blog. Thanks so much for posting. Now I can finally get past that.

  9. I am so, so glad that I came across this post, thank you!! That can seriously be one of the most annoying things! I usually try to go in the code and edit it, but it takes way too long!

  10. This is so awesome!! I wonder if this also helps to reduce the file space/size for the web server? Would be interesting to know. Thanks for this great tip! I have pinned it to my ‘blogging for business’ board.

  11. This is awesome! Thanks so much for the tip! I’ve been handling this issue by removing the gap inside the text editor, which works most of the time, but the majority of my clients prefer to work inside the visual editor, of course, so your trick is perfect! I will need to pass this along to them. Thanks again!

  12. Hi there,
searching the web to resolve this issue, i found another post that could maybe be a better solution. Using shift+enter actually makes a line-break, and not a paragraph. My client had already several posts and custom posts, and would be really insane to change all (so that all content would be consistent in the layout).
The other post i found offers what i believe a more efficient solution: add a custom style sheet for the editor. A simple task: just add a line to your theme’s functions.php and make a style sheet. You can even do anything you like.
    just add this: add_editor_style(‘css/custom-editor-style.css’);

    hope that helps!

  13. Wow! This is one of the few times I tried using WP advise and it actually worked out!!!!!!!!
Thank You, Angie, you are a TRUE Angel!!!

  14. OMG. A few days ago, I found it was very hard for me. I thought I need a plugin for this. Now, I learned from here. Right now, I am happy and it is the very easy thing. Thank you very much. You made my day.

  15. I tried it and all my text disappeared. .. Just kidding! That is a great tip. Now, if I could just figure out the other 5,679 things I need to learn to perfect my WP website. Thanks for sharing this.

  16. Thank you so, so much for this!! And here I was thinking that I would have to change the whole theme just to do this or learn coding which I thought was crazy.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
